mad fashion

11 November, 09:24 AM

I'm sure many of you out there are as obsessed with Mad Men as much as I am, in particular, the fashion! From Joan's figure-hugging coordinates (Hello? The woman wore two shades of purple--see below--and hit it out of the ballpark.) to Betty Draper's New Look silhouette with what seems like layer upon layer of crinoline...it's all so drool worthy!

While perusing the Mad Men website, I discovered the Mad Men Fashion File blog. Written by Faran Krentcil, the founder of fashionista.com, the blog is a review of each episode's fashions...definitely a must-read for all of us interested in vintage, clothes, and Mad Men!

Check it out here

P.S. Have Peggy's outfits been getting more and more incredible, or what?!?

Discarded 2 Divine 2009 (yes, it rhymes!)

7 November, 03:31 PM

Last year, Stitch’s B*tches had the honor of being judges at a most inspiring and fabulous fashion event called Discarded to Divine. The event benefits the St. Vincent de Paul Society here in our lovely city and it is all about refashioning.

Local designers submit garments made from recycled wares and compete for the limelight at the grand finale fashion show (the white tent and all!). Silent and live auctions keep the fundraising exciting and there are all sorts of ways to volunteer and get involved.

The call for designers is currently underway and a submission form can be found on their website.

Mark your calendars now: The auction will take place on May 7th at 888 Brannan Street and the Pre-show event will take place at the De Young on April 17th!

Everyone loves the comfort of a worn-in tee but let’s face it, they don’t always flatter the female figure. Here’s a way to reconstruct your favorite t-shirt into a feminine, fluttery feat of fabulousness!

yves st. laurent retrospective at the de young

26 October, 03:37 PM

Starting November 1 through April 5, 2009, the de Young Museum will be showing a retrospective of over 130 pieces of Yves Saint Laurent's work. Sketches, fabric swatches, and photos will be included, revealing some of the late designer's process.

This is the only US venue for this show, so if you live in SF or are planning a trip to the Bay Area, check it out! What a wonderful way to pay tribute to one of history's most important designers.

More info here: http://www.famsf.org/deyoung/exhibitions/exhibition.asp?exhibitionkey=940
